Chickens As Pets“Chickens As Pets is a brilliant book. It’s written in a very friendly style and is full of lots of information. We operate a collection point for Fresh Start For Hens and rehome ex-commercial hens, and this is the only book I’m recommending to rehomers.”

“A brilliant book full of advice for both the novice and established chicken keeper. A broad swathe of subjects are covered from hatching to health, feeding to foxes. A must-buy for anyone who wants to keep chickens as pets.”

WOOF! is Andrew's first novel. Andrew Hinkinson is the author of the bestselling Chickens As Pets – Your Definitive Guide to Keeping Pet Chickens, Woof! – a riotously rude and funny coming-of-age novel set in Manchester, England in the early 1990s – and myfibromyalgia, published in July 2018, which chronicles his experience of living with a chronic disabling illness.

Andrew was born in Lancashire, England. His mother had a home birth which is how the family’s toy poodle was able to bite the doctor when he turned up after all the messy stuff was over and done with. On his first day at school, left-handed Andrew started on the road to becoming an author by producing a fairy story for his teacher, but she had to use a mirror to read the backwards writing. “The spelling was perfect, though,” she said.

Thankfully for all of us, Andrew learned to write the other way round. He was soon drawing comic books with intricate and episodic sci-fi plots, selling them in the school playground for ten pence a copy.

Andrew moved to London to see the Queen and find Puss in Boots but somehow ended up with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre Arts from Goldsmiths College, University of London. He lived in London for 13 years and worked as an editor and copywriter. Relocating to a small market town in the Yorkshire Dales, Andrew studied poetry under the tutelage of world-famous poets like Simon Armitage and the UK’s first-ever female Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy and was awarded an MA in Creative Writing.

He then decided it was time he became an author. So he did.
