A little reminder that it's not too late to order my latest book, myfibromyalgia: one man's experience of living with chronic illness, for Christmas - or my other titles, for that matter. WOOF!, my first novel, is available in paperback and ebook from Amazon. Chickens As Pets: Your Definitive Guide to Keeping Pet Chickens is available on Amazon as an ebook, via the Apple iBookstore as an interactive iBook and via its own website (chickensaspets.uk.com) if you're wanting the autographed paperback.
I'm forever grateful to my mum for getting me to read from a very early age, long before I started school. I have memories of being on her knee having comics read to me, and my mum keeping a finger under each word as she read it.
Mum has always said she didn't teach me to read by doing that, yet not only could I read on my first day at school, I could write a story as well, using joined-up letters I couldn't have learned from ALL CAPS comics. My very first teacher praised my mum at the end of my first day but my mum said, "I didn't teach him to read and write!" I remember those early comics a little - there was a Disney one, Whizzer and Chips, and The Beano.
I also remember my mum reading Beatrix Potter to me, and the Christopher Robin poem about him going down to Buckingham Palace. The earliest book I recall reading all by myself was Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree.
